Over 600 visitors enjoyed visual and performing arts at the Second Annual Union Arts Council Art Show in the Courthouse during last weekend’s Louisiana Watermelon Festival. Visitors of the art exhibition voted for the “People’s Choice”, which was awarded this year to Chaba Simpson for her painting entitled, “Peaceful”. About forty five works of art were exhibited at the show and live musical performances entertained art goers. It was free to enter works of art and free for the public to visit the art show. This is was the second year that the Union Arts Council sponsored this event. “We want to spread the word about Union Arts Council, and get more local art lovers involved,” said Bob Ward, UAC exhibit chair. This event did just that. Union Parish Artists displayed their art work and local musicians performed for the art-inspired crowds.  Local entertainer, Amanda McDowell, organized the Performing Artists that entertained the crowds and Bob Ward headed up the visual art exhibition. “Without the individuals that volunteer for the Union Arts Council, this event would not be possible,” said Nancy Love, President of UAC.  “We want to thank all UAC volunteers for this event, including Joyce and Jimmy Grier, Dona and Jim Funderburk, Jean Jones, Betty and Gary Thomas, Chaba and Robert Simpson.” There were a number of young artists that displayed their talent and showed interest by signing up to be involved with future events of the Union Arts Council. “It was so good to see so many young artists express their interest in the performing and visual arts, said Joyce Grier, member of UAC Board of Directors. You can follow Union Arts Council events on their Website, https://unionartscouncil.com/, and on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/UnionArtsCouncilLouisiana. Union Arts Council has a monthly members meeting on the first Monday of each month (no meeting in August) at 4:00 PM, at the Farmerville United Methodist Church. These meetings have guest speakers, visual art demonstrations, and performing arts shows.   All art lovers and supporters are invited.
